Dear Peter, I've read with a great pleasure your "How to customise the TWebBrowser user interface". It is a lustrous talent to tell laconically and clearly about such complicated thing as COM ! It really helped me, thank you very much.
Webmaster's response
Very kind of you to say so. Thanks.

Your TPJConsoleApp class is not D2010 ready. I took a look a the neccesary changes: * Declare a local variable: var myLocalCmdLine : string; * Assign myLocalCmdLine := CommandLine; // CmdLine in PJConsoleApp.pas * Add: UniqueString(myLocalCmdLine) * In CreateProcess replace CommandLine / CmdLine by myLocalCmdLine Do you have some sparetime to include these changes. Or should I mail you the updated source code?
Webmaster's response
Sorry it's taken a while to notice this here. Co-incidentally another user reported the same problem and I gave him the same fix suggested here. The TPJConsoleApp class has now been updated and v1.0.2 of the project has been released. Get it here.

Just wanted to say thanks for the absolutely great work. Without it (and http://therealmattslay.blogspot.com/2009/11/adobe-acrobat-pdf-printer-output.html) I would never have gotten my 32 bit app producing pdfs on a 64bit Windows server (after MUCH googling and run-arounds) I can't thank you enough. In addition to Ron Wyman's post, I really suggest you use bbPress for the forum. It' lightweight (just like this site) and easily theme-able (just like WordPress). A forum would be great - I would be on it every day, in addition to my own development forum. :) Thanks again for a great site. :)
Webmaster's response
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm taking soundings about running forums on the site (see the Feb 2010 Newsletter). Anyone can contact me to say if they would use forums. Please put FORUM in the subject of ypur message.

Hi! I really found this website useful and it has taught me a lot about better routines, as well as good coding styles. I generally have my own styles, but these are good. For example, instead of calling up TFileName, you use SysUtils.TFileName. I know it;s longer, and a lot of people complain, but I think it's brilliant. I have started doing it ever since I stumbled into this site. Thanks for a great learning curve! :)

This is a very good website. Would it be possible to submit a new piece of delphi code using the CodeSnip tool? Thanks for all the great work done here.
Webmaster's response
Thanks. It is not currently possible to submit new code directly from the online CodeSnip database or the offline CodeSnip tool I'm afraid. I did once have that facility online, but removed it because it didn't get used! I am currently working on adding the facility to the offline viewer so watch this space! In the meantime please send any code via the contact page (if it is less than 16Kb) or via this email address:

Thanks for your reply. I am now registering my website. It will have a column on delphi , programming for beginners. Way back in 1984 I have Turbo Pascal 3.0 , the programs that i did were trivial, not really a commercial software. But the excitement of discovering things makes a programmer not only a creator but an explorer. We must be aware the way java & other languages are promoting their stuff. First the HYPE, then deliver. Delphi got the goods and they are elegant.

Thanks for the tips and snippets . I am a delphi programmer . Now I am moving to PHP 5 , Javasript and mysql. I think the future of programming are AI languages (ex prolog), parallel processing, open source object oriented scripting languages (php and ruby) . The delphi creators brought us VCL , elegant specially the UI that handle events . I wish I can be dabbler like you, the world needs concise examples of codes. unlike those programming books now in the market, 500 to 1000 pages rockzmanila@gmail.com

Hello Thank you for your codes, I have been trying to understand and use then but as I am so green I get a lot of errors. What I did get to work so far is the code for GetRegistryString that was a real time saver as I had no clue on how else to do that. Now if I can just understand string list maybe I can stop the exceptions.

Thanks. Glad you found some useful code. What is it about string lists you are struggling with. Please drop me a line via the contact page if you think I can help.

Excellent Delphi site, very well organized. I think you have a very good content management system. I came accross to your site, while searching for a model for my to-be-built Delphi site; how do they organize articles, downloads, code snippets, bug fixes, guestbook, newsletter, links, etc. Do you use an existing CMS or did you build all of this yourself? Thanks in advance.
Webmaster's response
I wrote the content system - each part of the site uses a different system - it kind of evolved!

Peter, I like what you are doing here. Have you considered changing the word "freeware" to "open source" I think "freeware" usually means compiled binaries/executables only, etc., but you are providing source code.

Thanks Chris, good idea - I agree "open source" would be better - I'll change that as I do updates.

After adding updated help to my D6PE+ the system 'didn't work too good'. First try with CHI so-so, but then listed my help directories and used that with CHI - success! Armed with confidence I then modified the OHI-OHL-OHC files to remove long-gone stuff. Nice site. Much 'cleaner' than many. Went the Z80 BASIC, MC route, myself, then after many years discovered Delphi. An active family doesn't leave much time for 'dabbling', let alone producing exciting stuff. Anyway, I have fun. Thankyou.

Your demo on clicking on a TWebBrowser control does not work. It depends where on the control you click. Do you have anything better that works 100%? You will see that if you click just above the grey rectangle in the wipe strip on the TWebBrowser control that your activecontrol is still Memo1 but your up and down arrow buttons move the web page up and down!? Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Jaco Crafford
Webmaster's response
See the article in question here. The web browser control places a border round any HTML document by default - and this happens in the article demo. Clicking in the border is not detected since it's not part of the document. Thanks to ANBe for providing this solution. If you create the document to be viewed you can remove the border using CSS, e.g. body {margin: 0}

I want my syst. completely reliant on .Net Framework. I have problems as I most do with Apps becoming Legacy Apps.using their own code. This is impossible to clean up with add and remove, leaving behind stranded dlls. I tried to use Driver Install Frameworks for 4 apps 2.0. I found I needed IsWow64. I took this from your site under Windows Dir Instal. If you can help I would appreciate your advice. I have two system Home and Media Center on Win 32.

Sorry Francis, I don't know much about .NET. Glad that IsWow64 was useful though. See it here.

Excellent site!! I love the layout and colors. Very good content. Just as you think you know all Delphi sites then you find this gem. Great to see that there are still people who care about Delphi. A lot better then all of this .NET crap ;-) .NET Is included in Delphi 2005 o_O.. And it is better than win32. if the program crashes, the .NET framework Kills the app completley! But I Prfer WIN32. :)

Thank you for this site. I haven't gotten around to using your code yet but it will probably save me a lot of work. Thanks again. Also, I have a suggestion. I try to show my appreciation of sites I like by clicking an ad, but you don't seem to have any. If you got some, you might get some money for your work rather than just appreciative comments.
Webmaster's response
Thanks for the suggestion about adverts. I've now placed some Google text ads on some key pages.

I found your URLEncode() function only worked (for me at least) if I substituted the line as follows: case ' ': Result := Result + '%20'; instead of '+' Of course the problem with the original code only appeared when the URL (actually, resource path in this case) contained spaces. I'm very glad I found your site. Just what I needed. Thanks.
Webmaster's response
Whether you need to replace a space by '+' or '%20' depends on whether the string is part of a query string or in the main url: it's a '%20' outside a query string and '+' inside it. I've changed the function to take a parameter to determine which. Thanks for pointing it out. See the new version here.

Hey man I love your solution Component Help Installer, that allows me to easily add help files into the delphi IDE. I just wonder why didn't Borland add such a convenient solution to their IDE. I've been suffering until I find your simple and easy solution. Keep up the beautiful work thanks man, you are good! I hope that you're guided to the best and enjoy your life helping others!
